THIS IS ANOTHER RE-POST FROM THE WILTHSIRE FORUM:

AM considering the name "KITTY WILTSHIRE" as a possible nickname of sorts for
"CATHERENE WILTSHIRE" (or a name sake). AND "ANNIE WILTSHIRE" as a nickname of
sorts for "AMANDA WILTSHIRE" (or a name sake). This family had a habit of name saking
and changing the name just enough to "play off" of the original when it came to the "girls." I am
speculating here with almost certain proof.(eg. Nora Lee=Dora Lee, Mollie Belle=Mary Belle
....). COMBS: can't make sure if the man was "J.R." or "J.K." COMBS.

MY WILTSHIRE has shown up as Wilcher, Wilshire, Wilshure, Welcher --- to name a few. In
the family Bible it is spelled several ways which I find amazing. On their tombstones, it is
WILTSHIRE.
Wm Wiltshire is in the 1830 Christian Co KY (ie.1830's tax listed), 1840 Christian Co KY,
1850 Christian Co KY, 1860 Christian Co KY, 1870 Christian CO KY CENSUS (all in the
PEMBROKE community near HOPKINSVILLE,TN) and the 1880 Sumner CO, TN Census
(LIBERTY community near GALLATIN,TN). He left GALLATIN, TN with his family about
1887. He died in Nashville, Davidson Co, TN in 1888.
He was born in VA. His OBIT in the Nashville paper almost makes him out to be a "repected
citizen." Both he and his wife Martha could write. Seems like he knew school teachers, because
back in KY his neighbors were teachers (and doctors). And in 1880 Summner co TN, he had a
husband and wife teacher living with him and his extended family [his wife and his daughter
SUESAN COMBS and her husband and two children] in the community of LIBERTY which was
named after the "Liberty School." The Liberty community really doesn't exist per say anymore
(there is a Liberty Lane in the area of old Liberty HWY 25). The Pembroke community does and
is small has has some of the most beautiful farmland I have ever seen. It reminds me of the Dutch
farm land in PA. It is also a somewhat Amish influenced community as well.
An oral tradition given me from one of the SUMMNER CO TUCKER descendants is that it took
over forty years for the land to recover from the devastation of the civil war. I believe it was
simply destroyed by the Union Troops. Issac Franklin (Belmont Mansion- Acklen fame of
Nashville) was one of the local plantation owners in the area. According to the TUCKER
descendant, there was a lot of anti-union bitterness that prevailed in the area which continued on
into the 20th century. History says the land was once big on Cotton and Tobbaco. (I "ain't no
expert" just a little background here).
Who named "Liberty" in SUMMNER CO TN and the church and who gave the land is
unknown(may be in the book "History of Summner Co TN). But WILTSHIRE's land butted up
against the Liberty School. This tract of land was sent into a purchase agreement with a
WILLIAM LOWRY(LOWERY) in 1888 settled in 1899. LOWERY died circa August, 1902 and
his land was surveyed and sold.

THE ABOVE INFORMATION:
All this information is proven with the exception of THOMAS father of William born 1807, and
two of the WILTSHIRE girls marriage partners and dates.

GENFORUM POST to Thomas L. Wiltshire born 1803 VA:
According to "TN Tombstone Inscriptions and Manuscipts ..." by ACKLEN; page 413.
"one of the best known and first organized churches of Warren CO was Liberty, a mile or so
from McMinnville. As Shown by his will, land was given by Thomas Wiltshire (Wilcher), the
church house was built and the church, Cumberland Presbyterian in doctrine, orgainized all in
1815."
There were Wiltshires in Summner CO, Davidson CO (see 1888 - 1893 Nashvile city directory
for starters), and Maury CO ( Columbia area).
Hopes some of this helps someone. My William Wiltshire is from VA, and married in Christian
Co KY, and lived in Summner CO TN and died in Nashville. He had 10 children, and died at 81
in 1888 of old age.

I feel that MAYBE "WEEDON"(sp) may be a WILTSHIRE VA family name as well.
Thank you for your time, and I will consider ALL speculations. Please post to the board for all
to share. My email address has limited access at this time. Thank you. I hope some of this
information helps somebody.
