Wilson / Willson, Lemuel / Levi

We're at a dead end with the Wilson family.

My gg grandfather Lemuel Wilson, born either in NH or MA in 1820. His obit carried his name as Levi, born in NH (San Francisco 1895). We first found him in St. Joseph, Berian County, Mich. in 1840. Sometime after that he went down river and settled in Rapides parish, LA in Wilson's Landing (apparently named after another Wilson). He was probably married twice and possibly had a daughter, Mary, by his first marriage. Somewhere, apparently in LA, he married a Caroline Payne, an English immigrant. My g-grandfather, Edward Gordon Wilson, was born in Rapides Parish, LA in 1846. By 1850 the family was back in St. Joseph, where a daughter Julia was born. Lemuel and Caroline had two other children: Fredrick Augustus, who is believe to have died young, but no one knows where; and Clara, who is said to have been born in California after 1855. In 1854-55 the family was in Missouri, from where they embarked to Oakland, CA. He did acquire a land grant in Solano Co. CA, but most of his later life is unknown. He is rumored to have been a wagon master, a horse trainer, a blacksmith, and a ship's carpenter. He died in San Francisco in the alms house, in 1895 and is burried at Cyprus Lawn Cemetery in Colma, CA. He may have had a sister Harriet, who married a James Randall in Michigan, and Randall came to Oakland about the same time as Lemuel/Levi.
