I am searching for a friend and have a Wilsher family at Great Wigborough,Essex in 1881.This is within a few miles of Colchester. The head of the family is a Pork Butcher and the youngest child Frederick aged 1 year is possibly the one I am looking for. For family rumour has it that a young man of about 14 yrs. old named Wilsher or Wilshire ran away from home in Essex after being accused of stealing. He changed his name to Harry Davis and joined the army at some time around the mid to late 1800`s and served in the Boer War,returning to England in 1902 and marrying in 1905.He told his son during later life of his name change and the fact that his father was a butcher.
Does that ring any bells with anyone?
get me on robgibbo@talktalk.net
thanks Rob
