Tom ... =)
Your message has given me the best chuckle I've had all day long. Sorry, but it's true. =)
My "oldest" (for the sake of identification) WILSEY is ... you guessed it! William Wilsey! who apparently, at times, went by William Henry Wilsey. His father, Henry Wilsey was married to a lady by the name of Sabrina.
My William Wilsey [b. 1796/NY] married Catherine Landen (a descendent of the Rev. War soldier, Laban Landon) who was born in Bradford County, PA, circa 1810 which, by the way, does not match the 1850 Clark County, Missouri census which gives her age then as 44. At any rate, William and Catherine went on to have 4 children between the years of 1828 and 1836 ... and just so things would remain a bit lively for we poor descendents, they name their first child William Henry! =) Their second child, my g-g-g-grand-father was named Harvey Ingram Wilsey, thank goodness! =) William and Catherine (Landon, according to Missouri history books) credit the couple with one other child, Robert F., born in Missouri in 1846.
Ah! But I'm not done with this generation yet ... they apparently thought they had a sufficient number of Williams at the time, whereupon, my William set about the task of confusing the issues further by marrying another Catherine! Catherine Maynard, who was born in 1802 in Of, VT. She died in 1855 in Peoria, IL ... but not before giving birth to a girl-child, Mary M. Wilsey, born on 13 Dec 1821 in Troy, Bradford Co.,PA. She died on 7 Mar 1894 in Palisade, NE.
The odd thing about this information, however, is that William Henry "the first" had left PA sometime between 1828 and 1836 with two of his other brothers in a westward migration. Did William take both wives with him? Were they Mormon? Because they were Methodists by the time they reached Missouri!
At any rate, this William Henry Wilsey (#2)married twice ... to two sisters ... Mamie Sara and Rebekah Gibson or Gipson, one committing suicide before he married the other as I understand it. This William H. was born in 1828 in PA.
Now the Wilseys, never ones for boredom, went on to name William Henry's (the second one) first child William Henry also! Having fun so far? =) Wait! There's more! LOL!
This William H. (let's call him #3) was born 06 Jan 1862 in Missouri and married Mary Catherine Summers, born 11 Jun 1867, also in Missouri.
Now ... just to muddy the waters a bit more, there is yet another William Henry Wilsey, born 08 Aug 1931. This one (#4) is the son of Mortie Wilsey (married to Gertrude Butler); Mortie being the son of ... you guessed it again ... a William Henry Wilsey(#3, if I haven't confused myself yet!) =)
One final tidbit ... there is a William Wilsey listed in the 1880 Clark County, Missouri census which I have never been able to match to anyone. He was 90 years of age at the time of the census! =)
I don't think any of this will really be of much help to you, but thought you might get a kick out of the story and I just couldn't resist when I saw the name William Wilsey ... I've wrestled with them all in my sleep! LOL!
If you think I can be of any help, please don't hesitate to contact me directly. One of my shortcomings is that I'm not too good at remembering to check all the boards I should.
Best regards & Successful searching!
