Hello Carol, I am a great grandaughter to Jonh William Benthall & Amanda Lee. His second wife was Miranda Wilmeth. I actually remember uncle Vollie he would visit my grand parents in O'Donnell TX. They are John William & Mary Riggs Benthall. I think I have a picture of Uncle Vollie? I have always heard the story that great grandpa benthall and marand drowned crossing a river. He hauled goods from TX to LA.with a mule team. When they drowned is when the kids went to the orphanage in Navarro, TX (1900 census). I would really appreciate sharing information with you. I recently moved from lake Powell to ID.
Look forward to talking to you.
My Mother is Kate Benthall md to Amos Newsom.
Do you know anything about Amanda Lee Benthall????
She lived with the Forehands in Williamson, TX as a servant for years, that is all I know. I think she was a native American? Can't wait to hear from you.
Carol
