I am seeking information about a Herbert Edward Dumain Willson (perhaps Herbert Edward Willson Dumain) born 28 September 1871 in Gravesend, County Kent, England. If anyone knows anything about this man or has any suggestions on what the best approach is to solve this mystery, please email me at

Here is what has been done and the story behind the mystery:
No one really knows anything about this man. He was my great-grandfather and left my great-grandmother when my grandfather was very young. If my grandfather knew anything about him, he wouldn't talk about him. All I know is from an inquiry for a birth certificate sent to the General Register Office, Somerset House, London, W.C.2 about 1937.

No record was found for such a man, but a Herbert Edward Wilson Dumain was found, born to a "Nelly Dumain" and no father was listed. The only "Nelly Dumain"s I can find in England could have been only 7 years of age or less when Herbert was born, adding to the mystery.

Herbert may or may not have wed "Florence Murphy," born abt Jul 1881 in Ontario, Canada. She immigrated to Seattle, King County, Washington, USA abt 1892 and died here 14 January 1938. The pair gave birth to one son, "Lawrence Herbert Willson," on 11 October 1911. Herbert may or may not have more wives and/or children. There is some mention of him being in Tacoma, Washington at some point, but no one knows when, where or why.

Any thoughts, suggestions, comments, or leads are greatly welcome. Thank you for your time!
