Hi All,
Hope to be of some help because maybe someone can help me on my Willow branch. I have been collecting information on the Willows from Central PA for several years and have some contact with related individuals. I do not know where everyone is in their research – experience, location, and resources wise – so I will begin from square one so that everyone is on the same page. To begin let me present a few notes that I have had “burned into my brain”.
First, Snyder County was not formed until after 1840. It was formed from Union County. Union County was formed from Northumberland County after 1810.Second, names can change from one resource to the next. This is true of surnames as well as given name. I made a dozen mistake before I realized that Jacob and George were sometimes middle name and needed to be preceded by John. This is very common among individuals that have Germanic origin somewhere in their background. It appears that sometimes the middle name is used for one but for another individual by the same name the first name might be used.
Jacob Willow is listed in the 1850 Union County, Perry Twp. Census as a Farmer, age 45; Elizabeth 38; Samuel 18; Harriet 15; Elizabeth 11; Jacob 10; Daniel 7; Lyeuis ??? 4; Edward 1.
Jumping backward to the 1830 Census, Union County, Perry Twp. lists a Jacob Willow 80-90, 1 Female 70-80, 1 Male 20-30. Only listings for this Census. This is a correct fit for the above information. Assumption: Jacob has son namedJacob continues to live on same property. Conclusion: Jacob Willow's father of the 1850 Census is Jacob Willow - or is he?
Going back yet another 10 years to the 1820 Census, there is no Jacob Willow listed, however, there is a John Willow listed in of all places Perry Township, Union County. Listings for John Willow are 1 M to 10; 1 M 16 to 18; 2 M 16 to 26; 1 M 26 to 45; 2 F to 10; 1F 26 to 45. One male 16 to 18 looks like a great match!
My interest in the Willows. Mysecond Great Grandfather, Jacob Bennett's youngest daughter Anna (Annie) Bennett married Charles Carpenter Willow, Clinton County, PA. From the looks of things, many of these Willows from central PA are related. If I can be of further help please feel free to contact me through email.
