I'm a direct descendant of Capt. Thomas Willoughby.I've been trying to get a copy of Alice Walters' book for some time.Does anybody have any information regarding how I could obtain a copy?
Also, does anybody have any information regarding the banishment of most of the Willoughby family, four adult males, from Norfolk after the Revolutionary War?My research shows four of the five adult Willoughbys backed the Crown and were personna non gratra and forced to leave. These four, a William W., a Lemuel, a Samuel, and another unknown, were apparently sons of Thomas IV.They were counted in Hertford County, NC, in the 1810 census. In the 1790 census there were no Willoughbys in Hertford County, NC.In the 1800 census there were three Willoughby's in Hertford County NC, John, William, and Willis.
William Willoughby, the son of Thomas V, backed the Continentals and is buried in St.Paul's churchyard in Norfolk.
