Some Descendants of Elijah Willis and Ciddie Petts
I just finished doing my son-in-law's tree (By "finished" I mean "going as far back as I could, then forward for all the descendants I could, until I decided finding BMD dates and places for a 4C2R wasn't really worth the effort") and thought I'd share some of my findings. Amplifications and corrections warmly welcomed.
Note 1, my genealogy program's report writer has a bug, so the source citations don't format properly. "John Smith1-8" should be "John Smith (1-8)" or "John Smith 1-8" with the "1-8" in superscript.
Note 2, I marked everyone born after 1913 "Living" even though some are not.
Note 3, the prose style is VERY mechanical.

First Generation
1.Elijah Willis1-3 was born between 1777 and 1807 in North Carolina.
Elisha Wilson Willis' father is "Eliza", born in North Carolina on Elisha's 1922 death certificate. (Elisha is "Eliza" on his death certificate as well.) These two are almost equally likely:
1850, District 3, Robertson, Tennessee, Page 21B
Willis, Elisha, 63, NC
Willis, Rebecca, 47, NC
Willis, Elizabeth, 19, Tenn
Willis, Wm E, 16, Tenn
Willis, Mass B, 12, Tenn
Willis, M R, 10, Tenn
Willis, Henry, 6, Tenn
Willis, John, 3, Tenn

Willis, Elijah, 64, NC
Willis, Nancy, 56, NC
Willis, William M, 17, Tenn
Willis, Mary, 14, Tenn
Both men are (probably) married to their second wives.
In 1850, Elisha and his wife are living with her parents in District 3, Robertson, Tennessee, Page 27B. Both are within range of a horse and carriage.
MUCH more research needed.
Elijah Willis and Ciddie Petts were married.Ciddie Petts1 was born between 1787 and 1811 in North Carolina.
I have seen Ciddie's surname as Petts, Pitts and Pettis. It is Petts on son Elisha Wilson Willis' 1922 death certificate. I estimated her birth year by assuming she was 16 - 40 when Elisha was born in 1827. Her birth state comes from Elisha's 1880 - 1920 census entries:
1880, District 3, Robertson, Tennessee
Willis, Elisha W, 53, head, Tenn, NC, NC
1900, Civil District 18, Robertson, Tennessee
Willis, Wilson E, Father in Law, Feb 1824, wid, Tenn, NC, NC
1910, Civil District 8, Robertson, Tennessee
Willis, Elisha W, Grandfather-in-law, 83, wid, Tenn, NC, NC
1920, Civil District 18, Robertson, Tennessee
Willis, Wilson Father-in-law, 92, wid, Tenn, Tenn, Tenn
(Not all census entries are accurate; I doubt they asked him.)

I'd bet even money this is Elijah and Maryann Rebecca living with her parents right after they married. Wiles and Elizabeth might be Uncle and Aunt, however, or some other relative. I'm going to enter them as her parents, but note they may not be. Wiles' and Elizabeth's birth states match Mary Ann Rebecca's in her 1880 census entry.

I have all the kids born in Robertson County because Ciddie and William Thomas are there from 1860 onward. Ciddie could have taken the train to Nashville each time, though.

Jewel is on the 1900 and not on the 1910. I'm assuming he died. I can't find a death record. "Jewel" is normally a girl's name. The handwriting on the 1900 is clear; "Jewel", male, son.

In 1940 Will is living with his sister, Daisy Belle, and her husband, Theodore King.
Will filed delayed birth certificate D-277763 in 1944. On it he stated:
Name: Will Gid Holman
Birth: 2 Apr 1874, Rural Robertson County
Father: Eli B Holman
Mother: Ann Willis
Residence: Springfield, Tenn
Note he is Will, not William, and his middle name is Gid, with one "D".
Death record; he lived in Springfield but died in a hospital in Nashville. He's Will Gid on his delayed birth certificate. I suspect someone made two assumptions - that his legal name was "William" and he spelled "Gid" with two D's - and he wasn't around to correct their spelling.
Certificate Number: 57-23616
Name: William Gidd Holman
White, male, widowed

Death: 28 Oct 1957, Nashville, Davidson, Tennessee
Residence: Springfield, Tenn
Father's Name: Eli B Holman
Mother's Name: Ann Willis
Spouse: Mary Grace Holman
Cemetery: Youngville, Springfield, Tenn
I wrote and asked about the "Youngville Cemetery". Tim Harris of the Robertson County Funeral Home replied: "I cannot say that I have heard of a Youngville Cemetery. There is a cemetery called Hopewell Cemetery which is in the Youngville community. This might be what you are looking for."
Will Gid Holman and Mary Grace King were married on 3 Feb 1895 in Robertson County, Tennessee.Mary Grace King10,40,42-44,46,47 (daughter of Theodore King and Fannie Elizabeth Gates) was born on 2 Oct 1875 in Tennessee. She appeared in the census in 1880 in Robertson County, Tennessee. She appeared in the census in 1900 in Robertson County, Tennessee. She appeared in the census in 1910 in Robertson County, Tennessee. She appeared in the census in 1920 in Robertson County, Tennessee. She appeared in the census in 1930 in Robertson County, Tennessee. She died on 18 Sep 1933 in Robertson County, Tennessee. She was buried in Robertson County, Tennessee - Holman Cem.
Mary says she was born in Kentucky on the 1910 and 1920 census. Her death record says Tennessee:

Her name is "Mannie Wilson" on one line of the marriage record, "Mannie Willis" on another. She is "Nannie", clear as a bell, on the 1900 census record. I can't find her in 1910, nor can I find a death record. Herman is married to Cassie Butt George in 1920.Herman Jesse Holman and Mannie Willis had the following children:
27 i. Jessie Holman10 was born in Jan 1900 in Robertson County, Tennessee. She appeared in the census in 1900 in Robertson County, Tennessee.

Ruby got listed twice in 1920, once with her parents in Carroll County, Missouri, omce with her sister Edith and Edith's husband, Arthur Macoubrie in Ottawa, Franklin, Kansas.
Wyatt was in Saint Joseph, Buchanan, Missouri, living with his parents, in 1940. He says he was in Kansas City, Jackson, Missouri in 1935. Ruby is in Kansas City, living with her parents in 1940; she says she is widowed. Wyatt says he is married in 1940. It looks like they separated in 1935 - 1940 and neither wanted to admit it. Ruby is "Mrs. Ruby Dunlap" in her brother Clifton's 1964 obituary. "Ruby Hagood" was the informant for Minnie McGee Willis' 1954 obituary. I thought it was Ruby with a new husband. More research needed.
Ruby Willis and Wyatt H. Dunlap were married on 18 Jan 1930 in Jackson County, Missouri.Wyatt H. There's a pretty good chance they were married in Kansas City, but all it says is Jackson County. They could have driven out into the country.

Joe was 26 at first marriage, Jewel 24. The fact the nieces' father was born in Texas, if true, (parents' BP's are often incorrect in the census) tells us they are Joe's nieces by marriage, not by blood. They may taken his surname, or the enumerator may have missed his stroke.

Joe filed a delayed birth record in Robertson County from Guymon, Oklahoma, which was approved 22 July 1955. It said

He used "Joe" in every record I found; I suspect someone thought it was short for "Joseph". His wife died in 1973 and they had no children to set the record straight.
Joe Miller Dean and Jewel Ann Hunt were married between 1910 and 1912.Jewel Ann Hunt110-112,115 was born on 6 Apr 1887 in Oklahoma. She appeared in the census in 1920 in Guymon, Texas, Oklahoma. She appeared in the census in 1930 in Guymon, Texas, Oklahoma. She died on 26 May 1973 in Guymon, Texas, Oklahoma (prob). She was buried in Guymon, Texas, Oklahoma - Elmhurst Cem.
I got Jewel's maiden name from the 1920 census:

Dean, Jewel A, wife, 32, Tex, Tex, Tex

Mildred L Willis and Benjamin Robert (Speculative) Herriott were married in 1921/22.Benjamin Robert (Speculative) Herriott77,159,161,162 was born on 19 Dec 1890 in Applegate, Jackson, Oregon. He appeared in the census in 1930 in Visalia, Tulare, California. He died on 20 Jul 1961 in Sacramento County, California.
Benjamin was married to a Mildred L Willis, born about 1902 in Missouri. Was she our Mildred, daughter of Harry McGee and Luvinia Tatham?
Arguments for:
1) First name, middle initial, birth year and birth state match;
2) 4 out of 7 family members were in Tulare County in 1930:
Father Harry McGee: Los Angeles
Mother Luvinia: Lindsay, Tulare
Sister Lois: Smith County, Kansas
Brother Herman: Santa Rita, Merced
Brother Herbert: Lindsay, Tulare
Brother Russell: Exeter, Tulare
Sister Ruby: Lindsay, Tulare
Arguments against:
1) Willis is an extremely common name,
2) California was full of people born in Missouri in 1930.
I have his nickname "Speculative" as a caution to other researchers.
Benjamin registered for the draft in 1917, which gave us his birth date and birth place. He registered in in Spokane. 200 miles from Yakima. He was married at the time. He said he was 30 at first marriage in 1930. About half the people who have been married multiple times give an age at THIS marriage, not first marriage, on the 1930. So, it could be his memory was faulty and he and Mildred married in Washington in 1916. Or, he could have had a short first marriage.
Here they are in 1930:

Everyone on the page has "Guest" for their relation to Head; he's in some kind of hotel, but it doesn't say which one. It looks to me like he's on an extended stay away from home, not divorced.

Services held for area rancher, civic leader Herman H. Willis
Services for Herman H Willis, 76 an area farmer, cattle rancher and civic leader were held at 1 PM Monday at Whitehurst Chapel. Burial was in the Dos Palos cemetery.
Willis died Thursday.
A native of Missouri, Willis had lived in Dos Palos 58 years.
He was known throughout the region as one of the founding organizers of the central California irrigation district and was elected as director of Division 4 (Merced County, Dos Palos area) upon the formation of CCID in 1951.
In 1968, he was elected president of the Board of Directors.
He was a member of the Dos Palos Masonic Lodge, the Scottish rite, the Shriners and the Elks club; and a member of the Dos Palos high school Board of Trustees and the San Luis canal company.
He was a member of the Rancho Divistadores [evidently an exclusive social club, which has an annual horseback ride to reenact early California cattle drives] and the California cattlemen's Association. The Association named him Cattleman of the Year in 1979.
During the Truman administration he was chairman of the Production Management Association and in 1962 toured the Soviet Union to examine agricultural practices there.
In 1979 Willis was interviewed by the Enterprise [the newspaper in Los Banos] after he was named grand marshal of the Los Banos Mayday Parade. Here are the highlights of that interview:
Willis said he was appointed to the Production Marketing Department in 1948 because of his involvement in agriculture.
But he was appointed above another man whom he thought was ideal for the post.
Once he got to Washington to ask why he was appointed over the other man he said he was told the main reason was that he had a sense of humor.
"That taught me quite the lesson" he said.
From then on he realized how important humor is in the political arena.
"If you inject a little humor when you're talking to someone, down the line you'll get further,"
he said.
Willis raised approximately 2,500 head of cattle, Holstein heifers and also grew cotton.
His son, Herman Willis, who went into the ranching business with his father, remarked during the interview that his father had done well, "considering he started out with two mules, 20 acres, one cow and a pretty wife", as he liked to tell people.
Willis said the years after the depression were the best for people in agriculture. There was plenty of land for sale and it was a period where you could expand, "if you had nerve."
And after the depression, everybody helped each other. "Everybody cooperated", he said.
Of course, Willis said, being young made a lot of difference and money went farther in those days.
But, Willis said, it takes a strong will to accomplish things in the lifetime and he was quick to tell you "I don't give up too easy."
"If I believed in something, I wasn't afraid to get up and argue it," he said.
He is survived by his wife Mildred; a son, Herman C of Dos Palos; two daughters, Wanda Lopes of Firebaugh and Myrna Harrel of Helm; two sisters, Lois Hill of Dos Palos and Thelma Denny of Fresno; a brother, Russell Willis of North Fork; and nine grandchildren.
The family requests that any remembrances be sent to the Dos Palos Memorial Hospital fund.

Herbert was single in 1930. He is married with a 5-year old daughter in 1940. I estimated their marriage year by assuming they were married before she was born. They were probably married in California, but Reno is always possible.Herbert R Willis and Maxine A Welsh had the following children:
