James Williams- Rev War Information and Children’s Names. Series: M805- Roll: 872- Image: 595 File: S32607- 17 pages Entered the War of the Revolution from Sullivan County, Virginia b. 1763 Sullivan County, Virginia- lived there 30 years, moved to Burksville, Kentucky and then to Hempstead, Arkansas. David Perdue Letter dated; 3 March 1940- Excerpt Dear Sir: Reference is made to your letter in which you request that you be furnished information in regard to the Revolutionary War Service of James Williams, who served in Captain Chiles’ company, Colonel Seiver’s regiment. The data which follows were obtained from papers on file in the claim for pension, S32607, based upon service of James Williams, in the War of the Revolution. James Williams was born in the year 1763, in Sullivan County, Virginia. The name of his parents were not given. While residing in Sullivan County, James Williams served in 1778, three months as a private in Captain John Luny’s company, Colonel William Campbell’s Virginia regiment; he served again in 1778, three months in Captain Henry Turney’s company, Colonel Seiver’s regiment; he served in 1779, and 1780, five tours of three months each in Captain Chile’s company, Colonel Seiver’s regiment, during this service was in battle on Boyd’s Creek; he was appointed captain of a company of rangers, and served four months in 1780. James Williams served, also in 1813, under ”Shelby in Canada”. James Williams continued to live in Sullivan County until sometime in 1802, when he moved to Cumberland County, Kentucky. He was allowed pension on his application executed February 11, 1833, at which time he was a resident of Cumberland County, Kentucky. August 16, 1833, one James Williams gave his address , Burkesville, Kentucky. In 1838, the solider, James Williams, stated in Hempstead County, Arkansas, that he had moved to Arkansas and the “greater portion of his children” were living in Arkansas. The names of his children were not designated, and there are no further family data. The solider died May 2, 1851. Etc. Etc etc………… James Williams Certificate # 19379, issued August 29, 1833 Rate $ 80.00 per annum Commenced March 4, 1831, Act of June 7, 1832 Arkansas Agency, transferred from Kentucky.
