The complaint sets forth that the parties were married "more than 20 years ago in the kingdom of Great Britain;" that they emigrated to California in 1850, and have since that time resided here. By industry and economy they succeeded in laying up property of the value of about $4000 -- part of which has been squandered by the husband. The latter, in the language of the complaint, has become wholly alienated from his wife "for many long months and during a great period of time." Prior to his desertion, plaintiff was treated very cruelly by him and on several occasions he used personal violence accompanied by obscene and indecent language, causing her to "stand around" in fear of great bodily harm. The complaint further sets forth that the husband had been unfaithful to the marriage vow, and had cohabited with women of profligate character. The lawful issue of the marriage was 4 children, for 2 of whom, a girl and younger boy, the wife prays she may have custody, and that an order may be granted preventing the defendant from disposing of his property, and a decree of divorce with such alimony as may of right belong to plaintiff.
