Reel, Richard Owen Willimenia married Richard Owen Reel son of Adam Reel and Ruthz Dilts on 20 Jun 1949 in Gallipolis, Gallia, Ohio. Richard was born on 14 Dec 1929 in Sandusky, Erie, Ohio. He died on 13 Mar 2007 in Sandusky, Erie, Ohio. He was buried Castalia, Ohio. Richard Owen Reel went by the name of Dick to those who knew him personally. He always said he was given the middle name Owen because his father was owing all his life. With a sixth grade education one could never comprehend the self taught abilities this great man had. An inspiration to all, You placed anything before him to repair, his talented hands and brains would complete the job. It was said that he once took a car engine that did not work and took it apart piece by piece and then repairing parts as he went along put the entire thing back together. When the engine was placed back under the hood the guys around said there is no way that young man with no formal training was going to get that car to start but when the key was turned all that could be heard was the roar of the engine. As a father and a person he expected much out of everyone and though his children considered him very strict he also was their hero. They may not have had the loving embraces, kisses and hugs but deep within that tough ole boy was the greatest father one could ever ask for. Employment In the very beginning Richard sat out for employment at New Departure Hyatt which is now Delphi, just before entering the door at the Ohio Road paving company and asking for a job from Sam Deblase. Dick got the job and before all was said and done had moved his way up and become supervisor. Richard offered his superior mechanical skills to Canfield Refuge Services, repairing garbage trucks and building a 40 foot swimming pool from scratch for the Canfield family. There were a good many hours and years providing his services for the Canfields. The Storage shed behind Excuses bar, which was then Bobs Inn, Dick and his brother Randy built that many moons ago, and it is still standing. Happy's Welding, Happy Keel the owner, a man with a wooden leg. It is said that Mr. Keel lost his leg from a motorcycle accident, but that didn't stop him from being the successful business man that he was. Richard really admired him, he was an inspiration to him. Dick helped Mr. Keel with welding projects for many of years. I remember being a youngster and seeing all the great big steel project boats that were incompleted. Happy had his own private plane to which Richard sometimes operated when Happy was too drunk, not that Dick was completely sober himself. When you sit inside the Wendys Restaurant on Perkins Ave, window view your looking directly across the street to the building dead center. Gerold construction, Dick gave a many of his years to this establishment, maybe a little bit of guilt of renting from John Gerold at a descent price. Repairing Heavy Equiptment Backhoes, Trojan Loaders, Front End Loaders you name it. His old home sits on Strub Rd. Everyone in the ole Columbus Park area misses Dick Reel, his Manicured lawn, and more importantly his helpful hands, and his kind nature. Notify Administrator about this message?
