The date of 1829 for Joseph Williams is the date his will was made. (sorry for the confusion) This Joseph was born in 1742 in Virginia and died 24 Dec 1830. I do not have middle initials for any of the family members. The nine known children of Joseph Williams were born between 1773 and 1793, all in Virginia. Joseph had a son named Joseph born in 1781 and a son named John born in 1784. I do not have a marriage record for either of these sons. Nor have I followed them on the censuses to see if they stayed in the area or migrated to a different state. It is possible that children of Joseph or Jenkin could have moved to North Carolina as it is so close to the counties they came from in Southwest Virginia. However, I have not traced any as having moved there. Jenkin had a son named John also. But this son died by 1810 and his brother James was appointed guardian of John's five orphaned children in 1810. They were Azariah, Jehiel, Harriet, Ludema, and Elizabeth. (Jehiel is my direct ancestor, thus I have researched this very thoroughly.) James moved out of Virginia, but he migrated west to Kentucky, not south to NC. If you are looking for a Joseph Williams born about 1829, he would be a few generations removed from the ones that I submitted their wills. The closest one in my files is a Joseph Williams born about 1831 in Virginia and is the grandson of the above mentioned Joseph Williams. He married Matilda Shackleford about 1863 and by the 1870 census had: Frances, Bryon, Harvy, and Susannah. That is all I know about this Joesph. The name Williams is such a common name that it is challenging to verify if you are on the right track. Best wishes to you as you continue to search your line.
