Marinus, b. 1740; Rev. War Hero
The May/June 2013 issue of the DAR magazine has an article about this man, including a photograph of an 1791 portrait of him;
"Bonr on July 31, 1740, Willett came from an established English family that had fallen into what one contemporary called 'reduced circumstances.'His father, Edward Willett was a schoolteacher and tavern owner.In his late teens Willett enlisted to fight with the militia in the French and Indian War and participated in the unsuccessful English attack on Fort Ticonderoga."
He went on to become one of New York's wealthier landowners. He helped found the Tammany Society.In 1807 he was appointed mayor of New York City, a position he held for one year.He died at his home, Cedar Grove, in 1830. He is buried in Trinity Church graveyard in New York City.
The article has much more information on his military and political life.I did not see any mention of a wife or children.
