I'm still looking for information on any Gardner Wilcox or similar name. This is what I have so far on the ones I'm looking for...

Gardner Wilcox Notes

December 6, 1815: Gardner Wilcox and Nabby Eccleston (parents of Gardner N. Wilcox) were married in North Stonington, CT, per marriage announcement in Norwich Courier. (Also in that day’s marriage announcements were Lucinda Eccleston (Nabby’s sister), who married William Eccleston, and Park Woodward, who married (Persis or Priscilla ?) Eccleston.

1816? Griswold incorporated (previously a part of Preston and possibly North Stonington).

7-31-1818 Ichabod Eccleston’s Probate certifies that Rebecca Wilcox (wife of Stephen Wilcox), Amos Eccleston (who died 9-4-1849 in Casenovia, NY – maybe Nabby gave birth to Gardner there?), Phebe Eccleston, Lucinda Eccleston (wife of William Eccleston) all above the age of twenty-one years, Nabby Wilcox, age twenty years, (wife of Gardner Wilcox), Betsey Eccleston aged seventeen years, Erastus Eccleston, age thirteen years, and Giles Eccleston, age eleven years, are the only legitimate heirs at law of Ichabod Eccleston and that Ruth Eccleston is the lawful guardian of said Betsey, Erastus, and Giles.

12-21-1819 Preston town hall records show Gardner N. Wilcox, Jr. died of heart disease, no age given. Was this an infant son of Gardner Wilcox and Nabby Eccleston? This couldn’t be Gardner Nelson Wilcox’s father, since Gardner wasn’t born until 1825.

1820 and 1822 censuses: Gardner Wilcox and Nabby Eccleston (daughter of Ichabod Eccleston and Ruth Geer) were living in Griswold. They don’t appear in any other censuses. The 1820 census shows that they had two girls between the ages of 0-10 (Gardner wasn’t born until 1825). Ruth Geer Eccleston (whose husband, Ichabod Eccleston, died 12-26-1814 at Sackett’s Harbor, NY in the War of 1812) was also living in Griswold in the 1820 and 1822 censuses.

5-20-1825 Gardner Nelson Wilcox (maybe Nelson Gardner Wilcox) was born in New York, according to 1850 Preston, CT census and other sources). One source says he was born in Nassau, Rensselaer County, NY (other names for Nassau (named in 1808; incorporated in 1819): Philipstown (1806), (formed from 3 towns: Petersburg, Stephentown, Schodack), (other villages and hamlets: North/West/East Nassau, Hoag’s Corner, Miller’s Corners, Brainerd, Alps).
*Note: month and day of birth are exactly the same as Emeline’s. One or the other may be incorrect. Gardner’s gravestone says 5-20-1825. Emeline’s is hard to read. Gardner and Emeline (and Hannah) can be found in the Descendants of Peter Spicer and Descendants of Thomas Stanton.

1838 - Found Ruth Geer Eccleston’s probate in the state library dated 1838 with the names Abby Robbins and Richard D. Robbins. Both Ruth Geer Eccleston and Abby Robbins were living in Voluntown. Abigail/Nabby/Abby remarried Richard D. Robbins prior to 1838. Found online a Richard D. Robbins who married Abby Eggleston. They had a daughter, Esther Jane Robbins, born in CT, who married James Trail. Also in the probate records are William and Lucinda Eccleston (Nabby’s sister and cousin, who married at the same time as Gardner and Nabby), Betsey Stewart (Nabby’s sister) of North Stonington, Rebecca Wilcox (Nabby’s sister, who married Stephen Willcox), and Phebe Eccleston (Nabby’s aunt?). In 1838 Gardner N. Wilcox was age 13, so his father Gardner, was either dead or divorced from Nabby/Abby by that time. (According to Frederic S. Wilcox, Gardner N. Wilcox had a half sister in Voluntown who married an Eccleston/Eggleston and whose grandson named Trail lived in or near Poquonock, CT about 1915.)

10-15-1848 Gardner married Hannah Spicer, daughter of Eldredge Spicer and Lydia G. Stanton, born 4-22-1929 (age 19 – Gardner age 23).

7-19-1849 Josephine E. (Ellen?) Wilcox was born, died 10-11-1880, age 31.

1847-1849 Gardner N. Wilcox bought land and blacksmith shop in Poquetanuck (#366A per booklet in Preston Library) previously owned by Joseph Tyler/Erastus T. Smith/Jonathan Brewster/John Harkness/Jonathan Pierce/Humphrey Avery/Walter Capron. When William G. Wilcox died in 1897, he had run the shop for 12 years and his father had run it for 38 years (per William’s obituary). It was called Stony Brook Carriage Works. In addition to William’s obituary, we have a letterhead and an article about the shop from an article written prior to William’s death in 1897. The article was reprinted in the Norwich Evening Record – Souvenir Edition, date unknown. We have 7 copies of deeds, available in the State Library and the Preston Town Hall, with the following names on them: Jeffrey Olin, William Ripley, Joseph Tyler, and John Rockwell. We also have photos prior to William’s death of both the Blacksmith shop and the house they lived in.

1850 Preston, CT census: Gardner Wilcox is living with Hannah Spicer and infant Ellen (Josephine?) Wilcox, age 10 months in August 1850.

6-3-1858 or 8-3-1858 Ervaett Wilcox born, died 7-8-1863.

9-16-1859 Hannah Spicer Wilcox died (age 30).

1860 Preston, CT census: Gardner N. Willcox, age 35, is living with Ellen J. Willcox, age 10, Ervy E. Willcox, age 1, Mariah Olin, age 15, House Work, John Gardner, age 22, blacksmith, Lucy Gardner, age 17, House Wife. Real Estate valued at $1000. 172-236 (Betsey M. Wilcox married Jeffrey Olin 11-25-1841 in Preston. Betsey was born around 1821. Was she Gardner’s sister? Mariah Olin may be their daughter, born approximately 1845. Jeffrey Olin’s name appears on one of the deeds.)

3-20-1861 Gardner N. Wilcox married Emeline Spicer, Hannah’s sister, born 5-20-1842 (age 20 – Gardner age 37), parents Eldredge Spicer and Lydia G. Stanton.

8-20-1862 William G. Wilcox was born (parents Gardner, age 37 and Emeline (Emma) Wilcox, age 20)

7-8-1863 Ervaett, daughter of Hannah and Gardner, died age 5.

11-3-1864 ______ Wilcox (female) born, parents Gardner, age 39 and Emeline (Emma) Wilcox, age 22)

1865 Beers map shows Blacksmith Shop and Carriage Shop, Est. (Establishment) owned by G. Wilcox, and on opposite side of the road, further down on the water side, a house owned by G. Wilcox. Old photos and new photos of house prove that it is the first house (now green) on the left on the water side of Route 2A as you leave Poquetanuck. The blacksmith and carriage shop was on the right side of the brook, where two newer houses are now. A run down house is on the rear of the property now. The land is very rocky.

3-10-1866 Charles N. Wilcox born, parents Gardner, age 41 and Emeline Wilcox, age 23).

7-31-1866 Emeline Spicer Wilcox died, age 24/2/11, in Poquetanuck, CT.

1-30-1867 Charles N. Wilcox died, age 10 months.

1868 Gardner N. Wilcox married Hattie E. Hall, born 9-18-1850 (Gardner age 43, Hattie, age 18).

12-17-1879 Hattie E. Hall Wilcox died, age 29, buried with infant son age 5 weeks in Poquetanuck, CT.

12-27-1883 Gardner N. Wilcox died, age 57, in Poquetanuck, CT.

5-3-1897 William G. Wilcox died, age 35.

I'm starting to compile a similar chronology of all Gardner, Gardiner, or Garner Wilcox's I can find. Any assistance will be appreciated.
