James O. Wilkinson, b.29 Jul 1811, Jefferson Co., GA -d: 11May1872 Polk Co., TX
James O. is the brick wall. We know he married Mary Ann PURVIS in Jefferson Co GA on 2 Dec 1831. (Have copy of marriage record). Their children:
Jesse Mercer Wilkinson 1832 – 1898 (b. in GA, d. TX, Married Mary Ann PEEBLES)
George B. Wilkinson 1836 – 1840 (Jefferson Co GA.)
David M. Wilkinson 1838 – 1877 (b. in GA, d. in TX, Married Permelia "Amelia" Ann PEEBLES, sister to Mary Ann) [my great-great-grandparents]
Marcus A. Wilkinson 1840 – 1871 (b. in GA, d. in TX. Married 1-Frances DUNN, 2- Mary YOUNG)
James S. Wilkinson 1842 – ? (b in GA, d ? Married 1- Elizabeth WHITE, 2- Malicy GRAY)
There are no other children born to James WILKINSON & Mary Ann PURVIS although I have seen Jonathan Pinkney WILKINSON attached to them. We have the Bible Record where the children of James and Mary are listed and Jonathan is NOT listed. In fact he is not mentioned within any of the Birth, Death, Marriage records,
Carol Nance, a Wilkinson descendent has concluded that Jonathan Pinkney Wilkinson is most likely the son of Asa WILKINSON and Elizabeth "Betsy" DYKES, based on information she was given which came from the bible of Asa WILKINSON.
In many of the records and documents I have personally reviewed and copied in the Polk Co and Hardin Co (Texas) courthouses, "WILKINSON" and "WILKERSON" are used interchangeably
Within the descendents the family names of "Buchanan", "Monroe" and "Oscar" have been used. From the Bible record we know that James "S" was named for Stonewall Jackson so I do not know if his middle name was "Stonewall".
CSA - Jesse, David, Marcus and James were in Co. E., 20th Texas Infantry, Elmore's Regiment,
I would like to connect with any descendents of these brothers and I would also like to connect with any descendents of James O Wilkinson from Jefferson County GA who can shed light on who his parents and/or siblings may have been!
I have heard reference of a Hugh Wilkinson being the father but I have not seen any documentation for this. I met with Joel Wilkinson when he came to Texas to research his book. I took him out to the old family homestead of Jefferson Davis 'JD/Jep' Wilkinson and Nancy Jane Cross in Village Mills, Hardin Co TX. (Now on the Langston property, the family of the only daughter, Nettie R Wilkinson who married Arthur 'Pat' Langston.) We discussed Hugh and Joel promised me a copy of his book for all the copies of family history on our line, which my grandmother had contributed but he passed away before he finished it. I do not know if it was ever completed and what records he had that convinced him of Hugh as the father of James O. Wilkinson.
