William "Billy" Wilkinson, Ludowici, GA
William "Billy" Wilkinson, 85, passed away Monday, June 3, 2013 in the St. Joseph's Hospital in Savannah. He was born in Glennville GA and lived in Long County GA all of his life. He was a graduate of Ludowici High School where he played basketball and he attended Brewton-Parker and Georgia Southern Colleges. Billy was retired from civil service at Ft. Stewart with 27 years of service where he first worked in Forestry and then as a supervisor in Roads and Grounds. He was a farmer and forester and as part of the anti-drug campaign hosted fishing derbies for kids. He was a charter member of the Long County Chamber of Commerce and was the only male member of the Long County Garden Club. Billy served his country in the National Guard, Unit 101, which was activated for the Korean Conflict in 1947. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Ludowici, the Andrew Sunday School Class and served on numerous committees in the church. His son, Bill Wilkinson preceded him in death. Survivors are his wife, of Ludowici; daughters and sons-in-law, of Jesup, and of Ludowici; grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Thursday, June 6 at 11:00 A.M. from the Ludowici First Baptist Church. Honorary pallbearers will be Hospice of South Georgia staff and Golden Living Center staff. Billy was a son the late Carl Clinton Wilkinson and Minnie Henry Swindell of Long County, GA and Grandson of the late James Longstreet Wilkinson and Ann Eliza Kicklighter of Liberty, Long, and Tattnall Counties, in GA.
