One of my cousins has a Bible that was in John Carter's family. It states that the mother of John Henry Carter was Emily Wilkins. It also lists the other children of Emily and Joseph Carter, which is how I found Emily in the census. Joseph Carter is not mentioned in the Bible, but is on John Henry's death certificate. However, on the death certificate, John's mother is unknown. John's oldest son completed the form, which makes me wonder if Emily died when John Henry Carter's family was still very young.
