I'm researching my family tree. My Great,Great Grandfather Lewis Clyde Wilkes came to Alaska in 1898 from McCook Nebraska but, was originally from Mineral City, Kansas where he owned a printing shop. He came to Dyea Alaska on a ship named "Australia". His birthday is unknown as he was born on a trail he called the "Old Fort Wallace & Fort Scott Trail" and nobody knew what day he was born. He married Jessie May (or Mae) Sipher (or Cipher) also from Kansas (in July 1882) and they had one daughter (my Great Grandmother) Marvel Esther Wilkes also born in Olathe, Kansas, May 1897. He had a brother named George who also came to Alaska. Lewis died in 1956 in Seattle, WA. I found letters that stated he'd remarried and had two more children with his second wife (names unknown). Would really appreciate any information that anyone can provide to me on L.C. Wilkes.
