Re: John Wilkerson, born Apr 1853 in GA
John Wilkerson, born in Muscogee or Chatttahoochee County GA, Apr 1853, was the son of:
William Wilkerson, born 28 Mar 1832 in Heard County GA,died in the Civil War;
& Mary Ann Cordery Wilkerson Plymale, born 1830-35, SC; died in Barbour County AL in c. Dec 1880; buried in unmarked grave (small section of Wilkerson rock wall) in Rocky Mount United Methodist Church Cemetery, Baker Hill AL
John Wilkerson married Catherine Driskell in Barbour County AL on 13 Jan 1881. I believe John must have had the responsibility of caring for his mother who may have been an invalid before her death, so he did not marry until after Mary Ann died.
John Wilkerson and Ann Plymale were listed on the 1880 U S Census of Barbour County AL next to Abner Wilkerson, who was a brother-in-law of Mary Ann.
Abner was my ancestor and he is buried in the other section of the rock wall in Rocky Mount Cemetery.
Abner’s 1st child, Frances Wilkerson Phillips (1st husband died in the Civil War) married a brother of Catherine, Moses E. Driskell. They also lived in Barbour County.
I found that John and Catherine had moved over into south GA by 1910,Urquhart, Early County GA. I was unable to find any later census information.
If you respond to this, I will ask you a few question.
Sue
