There are many Wilkersons that were Indian. On the Old Settler Roll of 1851, there are 9 Wilkersons listed. This roll was taken of the Western Cherokee that voluntarily removed to Arkansas Territory prior to the Trail of Tears. The names I find on this roll are:
Cynthia, Lewis, Milly, Hiram, Charles, John, Thomas, and Joseph.
Also, on the Drennen Roll of 1852, There are 10 Wilkersons, and 2 Wilkinsons. The Drennen Roll was the census of the new arrivals into Indian territory via the Trail of Tears. The names I found on this roll are:
Hubbard, Aaron, Aaron, Rachel, Richard, Susan, Thomas, George, Susan, and Lydia. Also, James WILKINSON, and AH NE WILKINSON.
On the Dawes Rolls (the final rolls) there are over 80 names for Wilkerson, and about 9 for Wilkinson. The Dawes roll is searchable thru Ancestry.com
I am researching my Brady lineage and have found that my Samuel Riley Brady (Cherokee son of Lucy Riley and Owen Brady) married a Mary Wilkerson (whom I know nothing about)and had a daughter named Adelaide Brady who has documented Cherokee blood thru her father's side. I believe that Mary Wilkerson was Cherokee as well (not documented just my hunch). I am searching for information on her.
One place to search is in Emmet Starr's book "History of the Cherokee Indians". It has several Wilkersons in it as well. I just checked out the book from my library myself and found my ancestors in it. It also has Mary Wilkerson listed.
Not sure if this info will help anyone, just thought I'd put in my two cents.
