Verna I decided to add this little blurb about Tobias ,because he was quite a character. He sued a man for slander and won a public apology. This was taken from Kentucky Court Records Page 378 January 23, 1827.... Know all men present, that I James Hardin, did willfully and voluntarily, without provacation, on the same day above named, at the school house of Samuel Douglas Hervey, on the waters of Cedar Creek, did then and there slander and abuse the character of Tobias Wilhoite, by saying,as people say I stated , that he was a hog thief and a cotton thief and a horse thief and that I could prove it, but this I said in a passion ,if I said it at all. Now in good conscience, I am bound to say without fee or reward, that I never knew him guilty of such charges as the above named. I do acknowledge, that I have been acquainted with the said Tobias Wilhoite from the year 1806 to this date and I have had an opportunity to do with and for him and do say that I have traded and dealt with him to the amount of $120.00 at a time and have credited himfrom time to timeand I never saw no dishonesty in him in our dealings and I do believe that Tobias Wilhoite does at all times endeavor and has endeavored to live peacefully and friendly with all men and do believe that he, the said Wilhoite, is as honest a man as any in Owen County, within my knowledge and do agree to set my hand to this paper and seal.SignedJames Hardin
