Drs. Jennie E. (Willey/Wiley) and Lewis Americus Ward

Seeking information about Jennie E. Willey (or Wiley) born c 1867 at Wisconsin. Her parents’ names are unknown but census documents indicate that her father was born in England, and mother born in Norway. Jennie's birth was not found recorded in Wisconsin, nor can I find her family in the 1870 and 1880 US censuses. She did attend and graduate from the Hahnemann Medical College and Hospital, Chicago, in 1895. On 21 March 1895, she married Lewis (or Louis) A. Ward at Cook County, Chicago, see Cook County, Illinois, Marriage License No. 230555. Lewis Americus Ward was also a graduate of Hahnemann Medical College and Hospital, having graduated in 1895. Thus Dr. Jennie and Dr. Lewis were medical school classmates.

By 1899, Lewis and Jennie had moved to Cadott, Chippewa County, Wisconsin to practice medicine, but were there only a short time. It is important to point out that they were living near Eau Claire, WI, where Dr. Lewis Ward had lived with his parents, Amos and Lydia (Trott) Ward.

The Drs. Ward next moved to Bemidji, Beltrami County, Minnesota by 1900 when they are enumerated there in the US census. Apparently, Dr. Lewis' brother-in-law, Dr. A. E. Henderson has previously established his medical practice at Bemidji. At this time, Dr. Lewis and Dr. Jennie were separately enumerated with Jennie Ward living with her son, Willie, born c 1897 in Wisconsin, his birth not recorded there; and, Dr. Lewis living elsewhere…both boarding!

By 1905, the Dr. Lewis Ward family was living together on Beltrami Ave, Bemidji, Minnesota, see 1905 Minnesota census. The 1910 US census, however, has Dr. Lewis Ward living with a "new" wife, Alice. Apparently, Dr. Lewis A. Ward, of Bemidji, Minnesota, was married to Donna Alice Castro of Chicago, in Waukesha, Wisconsin in late September 1908, see The Waukesha Freeman, published in Waukesha, Wisconsin. I can not find Dr. Jennie in the 1910 US census, for any state.

So...were the Drs. Ward divorced after 1905 but prior to 1908...or did Dr. Jennie E. Ward die in Minnesota during this time period?

The latter may not be correct as a Dr. E. H. Marcum, of Bemidji, reported on 29 May 1935 to the American Medical Association that Dr. Jennie E. (Wiley) Ward had died in 1915 at Bemidji, Minnesota. Please note that a death certificate is not available from the Minnesota Department of Vital Statistics for any spelling for Dr. Jennie E. (Wiley) Ward.

When did Dr. Jennie die? Where? Who are her parents? What happened to son William E. Ward born c 1897?

Thanks.
