Hello Lynette,

I have just seen your posting and wondered whether we might be related? You list the children of John & Elizabeth Leatherbarrow. Their daughter Alice (b.1842)was my gg grandmother. We (my Dad and I) are a bit stuck on the Leatherbarrow/Wilding branch. Elizabeth Wilding was John's second wife. He married a Mary Fairclough in 1831 and they had 3 children (Mary, Thomas, William) before she died. Nine children were born to John & Elizabeth.

John's birth in Colchester, Essex in 1808 is a bit of a mystery. Leatherbarrow is definitely a Lancashire name. His parents, John and Mary, are a long way from home when he is born. We don't know how long they were in Essex, or why. We believe John (Snr) is a weaver from Wigan who marries one Mary Tinsley in 1803, but we have no absolute proof that we have the right couple.

Elizabeth's father was a spinner called John Wilding and we think that his wife was Alice Platt, married in 1817 - still looking for definite proof of that!

Don't know if the above information helps - perhaps you know more than me! Please tell me the details of your connection to the Leatherbarrows

Regards,

Susan Wylie, Cumbria, England
