My great-grandfather was Charles Wilcox who ran away from home at the age of 13 because of an argument with his step-father. He got a job on the first ship that would hire him, as cook's helper. The ship sailed for Canada. His death certificate says he was born in 1871 in Birmingham, England.
Does this story ring a bell with any Wilcox researchers?
