My uncle was
My uncle was Alfred Wilcocks, I never met him but remember mum talking fondly about her brother Fred, what happended to him? My Mum was May Elizabeth (13/5/1897 - 13/8/1982) and my Aunt was Violet Pretoria DOB? but born on the day that the town of Pretoria was relieved in the Boer War. Granddad Ralph had been a Sergeant Major and joined the Police when he retired. He was a Station Sergeant. Mum played the piano and was often woken up to play for her dad and his merry! police friends to sing. Her Mum (Elizabeth) was a cook. Mum would often talk of going to have holidays on a barge owned by her uncle in Hillingdon and told me he retired to become landlord of the Bricklayers Arms in Yeading Lane in Hayes. I can remember her talking about her mum being Elizabeth Doughty and there being arguments about how it should be pronounced. She was named for Elizabeth and I named my daughter for her.

alfred Wilcocks, my Mum was May Elizabeth
