Tabitha,
Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!I cannot adequately express how much your research means to me.
I copied all of your Hughes information.Wow!You have certainly preformed a great genealogy service.I am truly in your debt!
Mary Jane Wilburn (spelled various ways) is definately related to my direct Wilburn ancestors. But how, I remain uncertain. She is either a daughter of Richard Wilburn who died in Highland Co OH in 1820, or a sister of Richard. My ancestor, Lewis Wilburn left Carter Co Ky in 1838 to file a court document in which he claimed that his father (Richard) was nearly 105 years old when he died in
Highland co OH in 1820.In this plea, Lewis cites the names of his three living brothers and their locations.
Williamof Giles, VA, Robert of Carter KY, Stephen of Claiborne Co TN.Plus, two grandsons, Randolph and Russell Wilburn. Census records show a Randolph Hughes in the residence of Russell Wilburn. Randolph appears to be an Uncle.
At any event, according to the work of David Johnston who in 1907, published his book about families along the New River, David Hughes and William Wilburn together settled into what was then Montogomery and later Giles, Co VA.
Reportedly, Wm Wilburn had a half sister named Susannah Hughes. This never made sense to me.However, what does make sense is that they were related in some fashion.
According to this book, Wm Wilburn was born near the Haw River in NC.He was born in 1760. And married Eda Guttery in Amherst Co VA in 1787.Bond was signed by his father, Richard Wilburn....Tandy Hughes appears inrecords in Highland, Co OHtransferring a land deed to Richard Wilburn.(I no longer have ANY of my documents)
Anyhow, the Wilburns were also closely related to the Blevins and Wallens...Think Elisha Wallen, the noted Long Hunter here.
Cheers and much much more,
Vikky WilburnAnders in San Diego
