My gg-grandfather was William Wilburn Waldrop born 1822 in Spartanburg, SC, and was the first son born. I have noted that in my family during the 1800s and early 1900s a naming pattern where the first son is named for the mother's father. If that was the pattern for my gg-grandfather Waldrop, his maternal grandfather would have been William Wilburn. 1800 census data shows a William Wilburn/Wilborn living in Union Co. SC and a Ephraim Wilburn/Wilborn living near him. I estimate William Wilburn's age around 21 and Ephraim's to be at least 30 and under 46. I found on-line one source that said William Wilburn's father was a Thomas Wilburn born at Sandy Creek, SC. I was wondering if Ephraim and William were brothers, both sons of Thomas? Can you give me any information about this William Wilburn and his ancestors?
