Here are some of my Notes for Martha Palmer and Spencer Wilber: Additions and corrections would be greatly appreciated.

Descendants of Martha Palmer

Generation No. 1

1. MARTHA4 PALMER (NATHAN3, EZEKIEL2, AMOS?) was born Abt. 1848 in Dekorra Columbia Co., WI (New York per 1850 & 1860 census, but WI on 1870 MO census), and died Aft. March 03, 1906 in Minnesota, Missouri, Oklahoma?. She married SPENCER JOHN WILBER December 22, 1865 in Fillmore Co., MN (IGI). He was born Bet. November 15, 1840 - 1844 in Onondaga Co., New York, and died November 16, 1922 in Minneapolis, MN.

MY NOTE: There seems to be some discrepancy in his birthdate per census returns? Does anyone have details of his marriage to Martha Palmer?

Notes for MARTHA PALMER:

Obituary of her sister, Betsy Ann (Palmer) Holcomb, 31 March 1906, indicates she had three surviving sisters, one in Oklahoma, one in Missouri, and one in Minnesota. Actually this was an error as sister Minerva (Palmer) Drake died in Columbia Co., Wisconsin in 1919. (Bessey Ann (Palmer) was my great-grandmother.

Martha may have been the sister who lived in Missouri as she and her husband Spencer Wilbur were living in Grand River Township, Clinton P.O., Henry County, Missouri at the 1870 census, but at the 1880 census were in Forestville, Fillmore Co., Minnesota.

Notes for SPENCER JOHN WILBER:

1860 Census, Cremona, Fillmore Co., Minn., Pg. 53

438/418

(I think this may be a different SPENCER WILBER, as ages are off)

1860 Census, Carimona, Fillmore Co., MN, Ancestry Image 211, Pg. 53

438/18

Wm. H. Wilbur, 35, Farmer, $3,000/500, NY

Sarah Wilbur 32, NY

Julia E. Wilbur 15, IL

Mary Wilbur, 6, IL

Geo Wilbur 20, Lab . NY

SPENCER WILBUR, 24, Laborer, b. NY

The above Spencer Wilbur couldn't be William & Sarah's son as he was only 11 years younger than William--was this Spencer's older brother? Also, this can't be Spencer J. Wilber, as his age on the 1870 census was 27, and on the 1880 census was 36--both returns listed with his wife Martha.

Note: At the 1860 census, Martha Palmer was also living in Fillmore Co., Minn, Carimona, with her parents and was eleven years old. They were enumerated on page. 58, and Spencer Wilbur (wrong one?) on Pg. 53.

However, Spencer J. Wilbur did serve for the Union in the Civil War: (middle initial J. given here and on 1870 census below)

Wilber, Spencer J. , Company E, 7th Minnesota Inf., Private Private Union

I also found on-line that he applied for pension:

Spencer J. Wilber, Invalid application for pension #613048, Certificate #445066, filed 14 June 1887, E7, Minn. Inf.

Has anyone seen his application for pension? If so, does it give additional information?_____________________________

1870 Census, 14 June, Grand River Twp., Clinton P.O., Henry Co., MO, pg. 58

(The Palmers were listed as a separate family, living in the household of Spencer J. Wilber and his wife Martha (youngest daughter of Nathan and Submit.)
