Kate,
I do believe we have a match!!!Mary Ellen Wigner was born in 1857 and died in 1902 from Tuburclosis (sp).Eliza is probably short or an abreviation for Elizabeth.Their mother was Armina Glen born in 1838.Our records show Ammon being born in 1832, but that is only two years off from your records. The names of the girls, their mother's name and the County (Gallia) is too complete a match to be untrue.Everything matches except the year of birth for Ammon. My Mom wrote in a letter as follows:
"Mary Ellen's mother (Arminia Glen) I found twice on a census sheets.Once when she was a child, with her family, and again when she was married to Ammon Wigner and had Mary Ellen (about three years old) and a baby, Eliza E. (1 year old).after that Armina and Ammon disappeared off the census sheets (or I couldn't find them) But Mary Ellen appeard as a teen, living with a Smith family (George and Grace Smith). She was listed as a servant.Mrs Smith's first name was Grace and Mary Ellen named her first daughter Grace."
As you can see in the above passage from my mother's letter, Mary Ellen's sister was two years younger, and had to have been born in 1859 since we know Mary Ellen was born in 1857."Eliza" is probably an abbreviation for Elizabeth they used on the census sheet.
My mother's research shows Joseph Wigner as Ammon's father but we didn't have a name for his mother.I wonder what Nancy's maiden name was?
This is the first connection I have been able to make.Thanks.If you have some documents you can copy for me, please e-mail me at my home e-mail address and I'll send you my mailing address.
