I might have been a little bit premature in stating that the wife of Valentine Wightman-Whitman (1627-1701), Mary's, maiden name was Wightman-Whitman? In what research that I have done, I've seen it "stated" as Wightman-Whitman?
As you know John Wightman (1599-1669) had a son Valentine Wightman-Whitman who "seems" to have been the "eldest" of the five sons of John Wightman (1599-1669). Also I was in error in stating that Valentine Whitman's daughter. Susannah Whitman (1658-1734) married Nehemiah Ballou. She in fact married James Ballou (1652-1741) on July 20, 1683. One of their children was Neuemiah Ballou (1702-1769).
Valentine Whitman was employed as an Indian interpreter and also was a Commissioner to the General Court of Rhode Island in 1658.
Reference: "Genealogical Dictionary of Rhode Island" by John O. Austin, page 224, also "Representative Men and Old Families of Rhode Island" Volume II, page 1235.
Valentine Whitman (1627-1701) had a son, Captain Valentine Whitman (1668-????)who was married on December 12, 1694 to Sarah Barlett. I have information on a disc on the Ballou family which gives more detailed data on the Ballou family. Please state your E-mail address so I can E-mail the information to you if you are interested?
