John was the son of
Edward Wightman of Burton-upon-Trent, Staffordshire, England,
was for religious liberty in his country and was the last martyr
by fire in England, burned at Naschuet Place, in Litchfield,
Hampshire, April 11, 1612.
Litchfield, Hampshire (Hants., it used to be called
Hantsfordshire) was in the middle of a triangle formed by Newbury
on the north, Baskingstoke on the east, and Andover on the
southwest.
