Hi James,
I'm an Updike researcher and came across a book called "George Wightman of Quidnessett, RI 1637-1721 and his descendants. (1939) 486 pages. It's available on-line at http://www.higginsonbooks.com/http://www.higginsonbooks.com/ .He is also briefly mentioned in the Opdyck Genealogy (1889)since he married Elizabeth Opdycke (Updike):
20 May 1671 George Wightman among 13 assembled inquiring if RI (vs Conn) had jurisdiction over their land and if so wanted a local sherrif appointed.
1722. His will mentioned that his (3) daughters should inherit their deceased mother's household belongings.
They had the following children according to the Opdyck book: Elizabeth, Alice, Daniel, Sarah, George, John, Samuel, & Valentine.
6 May 1673, George Weightman admitted as freeman to the Colony of RI
