I found Joseph and Elizabeth on the 1841 census in Copmanthorpe, York. He is listed as aged 25 (but ages on that census are rounded down to the nearest 5 years - so he would be between 25 and 29) Elizabeth is listed as age 20, Joseph was a railway officer. Their two children were William aged 2 and Mary aged 1. There is a death of Joseph Wigglesworth at Ripon in the March quarter of 1845, Elizabeth may have married under her maiden name (I can find no marriage of Elizabeth Wigglesworth to a Smith before 1845, but there is a marriage of an Elizabeth Mason to a Joseph Smith in March 1846. It might be worth your while to get the death certificate for Joseph. I think it's possible that he was Joseph son of William and Betty Croft baptised at Acaster Malbis on 14 Nov 1813. Especially as he had a sister called Mary. You might like to contact me direct (newman@clara.net)
