Both Roger and William came to what became Stafford County Virginia in the 1690's. William moved to Bedford County. It was written in my great aunt's bible that Roger and William had to leave England because there was a price on their heads for "insurrection". Perhaps that was more politically acceptable than "they are the king's bastard sons".
