I cannot say for sure that this is right, but the Edmund Wiggins I am looking for lived in Savannah, and died November 19, 1789.This from the Georgia Gazette clippings book, p. 239.Later, on p. 252 is a Mary Wiggins, listed as Executive of his estate, seeking to settle all debts against it.I was able to confirm this in a later newspaper posting of February 17, 1791, when she is listed as remarrying one Benjamin Webley.
The dates do not exactly match the George Edmund Wiggins you list as born in 1800.But I thought I would give this a shot, as I have seen birth and death dates wrong before.
I have not done much digging into the first EW, but he is my actual target.Sparse info so far.Know he sold dry goods for a time, and owned at least two slaves, Matilda, "a negro wench, well known in Savannah" and "a negro man named Monday," who was "formerly the property of Mr. Edmund Wiggins.
If this sparks your interest, or if you have uncovered any additional information, I would most pleased if you could share.
