Peggy:
Thanks for the response. There are a couple of Wiggins families in the various census reports for Conecuh County and Monroe counties, Alabama.A number of these census reports are on-line on the two county GENWEB pages. The James and Delphia Wiggins (with no children and James' property worth $250) appear on the 1850 Monroe Co census, p. 011a lines 27-28, HH# 150, as:
27 Wiggins, James22 M Overseer 250 Ala
28 Wiggins, Delphy 20 FAla
They appear on the 1870 Concecuh County report (sorry don't have the page and lines) as:
James H. Wiggins 45
Dephia 41
James T 17
Susan14
Ada10
Mary J6
Almy2
The full list of children I have for James and Delphia are from partial pages of a book sent me just this week:Privately published by the family of June Jones Igo, "Flow of Fountains", 112 West Main St. Wolfe City, TX: Henington Publishing Co, 1999, pps. 397-98.I am trying to get the other pages as well.
The Wiggins that appear on the pages I have are descendants of William Wilson Wiggins and Elizabeth Henry Fountain of primarily Dallas & Monroe Co AL:
- James Henry(1826-1901), m. Delphia Ann Nunnelly
- Mary Jane(1827-1879), m. James Glenn Henderson
- Martha Ann Lucretia (1829-at.1880), m. James E. Henderson
- William Stephen (1832-1914), m. Lucy N. Hixin
- Harriett Newell (1835-1904), m. William Kyser Lindsey
- Thomas Dorsey (1836-1859), m. Sarah Amanda Linsey
- Jephalonia Hasseltine (1845-1863)
Full dates and places of birth, marriage and deaths are given for each of the children. All the children, but James Henry Wiggins (who moved to and died in Hardin Co, TX, evidently to live with his son James Franklin Wiggins after the death of his wife Delphia) married, lived and/or died in Monroe Co., Alabama.
The pages I have for the family of James Henry Wiggins and Delphia Ann Nunnelee/Nunnelly are incomplete. There is first a list of 10 children with no other information. This is followed by a complete description on subsequent pages, of which I only have one page, viz:
A. Ann Elizabeth
B. James Franklin
C. William Washington
D. Mary Susan
E. Ada G.
F. Jeffalonia
G. Mary Jane
H. Martha Wilson
I. Alma
J. Osborne Nunnelly
The page on which this list appears, is the information for Ann Elizabeth. On the next page is the info for James Franklin, viz:
A. Ann Elizabeth Wiggins (1850-1879), m. John Hardin
Children: Ada, Minnie, Robert.
B. James Franklin (1852-1901), m. Cynthia Eboline Collins
1. Jessie Alma (1882- ?), m. Charles Word Rollins
2. Delphia Algenora
3. William Hamiel
4. James Osborne, Sr.
5. Mittie Marcella
Other information I have for the children of James Henry and Delphia Ann Wiggins is:
William Washington (1854-1921), m. Alice Vernelia C. Stroman
- also moved to Hardin Co TX
Mary Susan (1856-1923), m. William Wesley Smith
- lived in Gonzalez Co TX
Ada G. (c. 1860 - ?)
Jeffalonia - only the name
Mary Jane (c. 1864 - ?)
Martha Wilson - only the name
Alma (c. 1868 - ?)
Osborne Nunnelly - only the name
James Franklin Wiggins was born in Conecuh Co AL and moved to Texas where he married Cynthia Collins, in Hyatt, Tyler Co., TX.James Franklin's father, James Henry Wiggins, evidently went to live with either one or the other of his sons (James Franklin and/or William Washington) in TX after the death of his wife, Delphia Ann Nunnelee, as he died (Honey Island, Hardin Co TX) and is buried in the Old Hardin Cemetary, Kountz, Hardin Co TX.
Those who may be of this line of Wiggins will be interested to note the recurrence of some other family surnames in those given above.Franklin is a recurring name that comes down through the Nunnally/Nunnelee/Nunnelly line - an Ann Franklin married into the Nunnallys abt. 1758 in Virginia.James Franklin is a frequent combination for boys personal names and this appears to come down from James Franklin Nunnally, RS, and son of Ann Franklin and William Womack Nunnally, (1760-1838) who emigrated from VA to Elbert Co GA.There are several generations of men named James Franklin Nunnally/Nunnelly/Nunnelee.
The son Osborne Nunnelly Wiggins, is named after his grandfather, Osborne F. Nunnelee (c. 1798-1868) who came from Elbert Co GA to Conecuh Co AL, and is the father of Delphia Ann Nunnelee.
Ada is a recurring name, perhaps from Delphia Ann Nunnelee's mother, Ada Bentley.
So it goes.Other family names included in chilren's names would be evident to people researching other lines.
Regards to all
