origin and meaning of Wiggins
My Great Grandfather Charles Wesley Wiggins, whose family came from Ireland, said that the family name used to be Mc Wiggins. I also have read that the name was originally Mc Uiggan, Mac Guigan, or MagUiginn and the English gave it the more familiar spelling of Mc Wiggins. I also found one reference that said Wiggins means "Keeper of the Trees." Of course tracing the exact origins of a family name is difficult, there are often more than one line with the same name and the orgins can be quite different.
