Seeking information on ancestry of Hans Heinrich Wiese (born 10 March 1842 in Holm or Helm, Germany). After immigrating from Germany, Hans Heinrich settled first in Davenport, Iowa with his two brothers (I do not know the names of his brothers). Then he moved to Arcadia in Carroll County Iowa with his wife and daughter where a son John Edward was born (date of birth 30 May 1881). In 1884 he moved to Spearville, Kansas where three more children were born.
Dates given vary (1860, 1867, 1870, 1872, 1876) but most likely he immigrated in 1876 with his two brothers, his wife (Katherine Magdalena; daughter of Anna and Claus Meier; born 13 August 1850 in Schleswig-Holstein, Germany) and his daughter (Minnie Alvina; born 10 June 1875 in Schoenberg, Germany).
Hans Heinrich went to elementary school in Kiel and studied to become a carpenter and cabinet maker by trade in Hamburg; but he came to Kansas to farm. I have been unable to locate H. H., Lena, and Minnie in the 1880 Iowa census (ages should be 38, 30, and 5 yrs, respectively, but this family made a habit of being unusually casual about giving consistent accurate dates and ages to the census taker).
Lena’s mother (Anna or Antje, widow of Claus Meier) immigrated in 1894 from Hamburg at the age of 76. According to family lore, H. H. and Lena were cousins; so either Lena’s mother was a Wiese or Hans Heinrich’s mother was a Meier. Any information on his brothers or his parents would be greatly appreciated.
