The Battle of Wyerman's Mill & Hiram C. Wireman
I'm looking for any information regarding the battle of Gibson and Wyerman's Mills in Lee County, Virginia, which took place on February 22, 1864.
It was a small skirmish in which Confederate Troops surprised and captured several Union soldiers camped near the area. My 3rd great grandfather, Hiram C. Wireman (Wyerman, Wierman, Weirman, Wyreman), lived at Wyerman's Mill with his family. I'd read some reports on the skirmish and I've been to the location of an old mill that I think was the Wyerman Mill, on Indian Creek.
Hiram C. Wireman married Hannah Provence (Provins). They had several children in Lee County, Virginia. I think Hiram's family was from Pennsylvania, and he may be related to a James Wireman who lived in Lee County, Virginia, in the early 1800s. I would very much like to find out more about Hiram's origins.
Just looking to see if anyone has any information regarding the skirmish or the Wireman family. Feel free to e-mail me, too, if you wish.
