Hi Beth. I haven't heard "Goldberg" in connection with my Wiener line. My grandfather was Herman Wiener, and I do not know the names of his father and mother. The Wiener family emigrated to New York in mid-19th century and were German Jews, although the name comes from Austria -- I believe it actually means "someone from Vienna." Herman's mother died when he was young and his father remarried; the new wife didn't particularly want him around and so he left home at 13-14 years of age and went into business.

My father was born in Brooklyn (as was my mother) in 1932; my grandfather died in the 1950's. That's all I know right now. I will call my father and ask more questions.

Please do let me know if you have any Herman Wieners in your line.

Linda
