I am descended from William Wayland, brother to Nevil Jr, Francis and Henry. He is in LawrenceCounty, Arkansas 1815, before that they were in Lower Russell County, Va. His father Nevil Srt, wife Keziah -- we suspect her maiden name was "Gibson". William's wife was Elizabeth, we suspect her mauiden name was "Stuart/Stewart".

Suspect Gibson for Kezziah's maiden name because there was a Kezziah Gibson, daughter of Thomas and Mary Gibson and there is a Mary Gibson at their church, also there were Gibson next door neighbors and a Gibson with land in the center of the Wayland land in SW Va.

Suspect "Stuart/Stewart" as Elizabeth's maiden name as there was a daughter named Mary Stewart/Stuart Wayland.

I read on Spartanburg SC website many people who settled there came from Culpepper and Orange County, Va., and that is the location of the germanna settlement. Also there were some Saponi Indians nearby in the lands of Gov Spotswood, and the Gibson's are thought to have been Saponi. The Saponi left this region about 1740. Eldest son of Thomas Weiland left this area about the same time.

Our Nevil Sr was born @ 1754,place unknown. He appears in SC during Rewvolutionary War. I was told there are many records of him , but I don't know how to find them. Francis Marion was a SC Rev War general, and perhaps "Francis" Wayland was named after him. A Nevil family was killed early in the 1711 Tuscarora War and perhaps our Nevil's given name is related to this?? Wild guess I know . . . :) -- just lookin' for possible clues . . .
