Jacob Widrig in April 1837 lived in Schuyler, Herkimer Co. NY where he grew up, per his Rev. War service pension application file (National Archives, #S11839).

He states he volunteered in the 1st year of the war, served as Private in Capt. Dygert's Co., Col. Herkimer's Regiment. Served 9 mos. in 2nd year of war in Capt. Staring's Co. (Col. Peter Bellinger's 4th Tryon Co. militia--kd), when he was in battle near Capt. Staring's home in Schuyler (was this Oriskany??--kd). He served 9 mos in 1778 in Capt. McKean's Co. of Bellinger's Regt. He then served 2 mos in 1779 or 1780 in Capt. Demuth's Co. same Regt., was in 2 engagements, the 2nd at Ft. Dayton in which he was capTURED NOT CAPTAIN by "Indians" and taken to Ft. Niagara where he was servant to a British officer for more than 2 years.
