We've just returned from vaction so I'm sorry I took so long to respond.
First congratulation to you and your wife for the new addition to the
W_D_N_R clan. I've coined this as shorthand for the surname and all its
derivatives. Don't, in your research, throw away any information because
the splling is Widner, Widnor, Wydner, Weidner, Wittner, Weitner, etc
....you get the idea. It will save you some headaches somewhere along
the line.
Interesting name Grace. You bring in a new child to use the name and
I've just lost my dad's sister whose been using it for about 80 years.
It's a good name indeed.
>From the additional data you provided I found a birth date for Mike
listed as dying in 1979. He was listed in the 1910 census Index as
Hardy.
Here is the family census:
Texas 1910
Angelina Co
Henry Widener1881 TX
ElizabethWidnerw1882 TX
James G Wideners1902 Tx
Hardy Wideners1904 Tx
Jesse Wideners1906 Tx
Lucy Widenerd1908 Tx
Millard Widners1910 Tx
Ella Howard[niece]1906 Tx
From this I was able to move to the 1900 Census Index:
Texas 1900
Angelina Co
Mike Widener1843Alabama
Laura LWidenerwife1853Louisiana
James H Widenerson1881Tx
Matilda E Widenerdau1884Tx
Ellen Widenerdau1886Tx
Mandy Widenerdau1888Tx
Thomas A Widenerson1890Tx
Franklin Widenerson1894Tx
Then to the 1880 Census Index
Mike Widener1843Alabama
Laura L Widener________wife1853La
Martha F Widenerdau1879TX
More work need to be done on the census reports for 1870 but
I did find in Angelina Co, TxMichael aged 27 born Alabama
and living with him is a Mrs Lizzie Widener age 38 [born abt
1832 TX] relationship not known and a Lucie McIntosh age 17
[born abt 1853 Tx], kin unknown. Mike has not yet married, I
don't think.
In the 1860 Census of Angelina Co I again find Michael age 18
living with Margart Widener ager 60. Both are listed in this
census Index as from Ireland. I really believe this to be not
the case and the total reading of the direct census is called
for as it should be for the 1870.
In the 1850 Census Index for Sabine county we find Michael
once more.
Michael Widener90PA
Francis Widener45SC
Amanda Morgan19GA
Emily Widnener14TN
Michael Widener Jr7AL
Again, the original census needs to be read for more info.
Neighbors, etc.
I hope this is a bit of help. If you will fill me on the family from
your family to these, I would appreciate the info as I can then help
others that I might run into that have this line. It's not my line
but the total surname is a hobby.
By the way this Michael, Jr fought for Texas in ths Civil War and he
has papers filed in Texas for a Civil War Pension. Let me know if I
can be of further assistance.
Regards
Lee Widner
