Adam Wideman searchers:
I am taking the liberty of copying a listing my cousin Ed Morrah posted on the LONGCANE web site to inform all interested that the Wideman-Harris-Wilks cemetary does exist, and does indeed contain the well-marked grave of Adam Wideman, Pvt, SC Militia, Rev War.
Ed's listing is repeated below:
"Eureka! The elusive Wideman-Harris-Wilks cemetery has been found. On Friday
April 6, a team of determined cousins, all descendants of Adam Wideman and
Millie Harris, located the cemetery after about a two-hour search. The team
was composed Cece Coury, Mission Viejo, CA, Betty Goin, Abbeville, Bob
McGarity, Springfield, VA, and Clemson, and Ed Morrah, Greensboro, NC.
Ancestral home-place sites of these cousins lie within a two-mile radius of
the cemetery.
The cemetery is in an area of the Sumter National Forest and although
remote, remains relatively undisturbed and in good condition except for the
trees grown up within the site. The stones, including that of Adam Wideman
are just as recorded in the McCormick Co. SC index published by the
McCormick Co. Historical Soc.
It is located at plotted coordinates 33.9911deg.N, 82.3748deg. W., and is
approximately 360 ft. west of a well-maintained dirt road. This is almost
two tenths of a mile further from where it is shown on some maps i.e.:
South Carolina County Maps, by Thomas Publications. Any one seeking more
details regarding the location, contact Ed Morrah, edmorrah@worldnet or Bob
McGarity, [email protected]
Ed Morrah"
