William Wycliffe, Esq.
Hope someone can explain to me exactly what this quote means..."William WYCLIFFE, Esq. Lord of Wycliffe & Ulvington d. 3rd May Jas. 1 {what is this date?}and on the death of his only son he broke the entail {is this some kind of inheritance law, or what?}, suffering a recovery against himself {???}, in order that his two daughters should inherit the property at his death."
Also, in another place it says "William WYCLIFFE, Esq., ELDEST SON of Lord of WYCLIFFE & Ulvington d. 3rd May 9 Jas. 1.Married Margaret, daughter of John BLACKSTON of Blackston, Durham." {Aren't these father and son?Why do they seem to have the same d.o.d.???Or is this a transcription error??}
Also, does anyone know where I can see a copy of The Visitation of London, 1634 and Plantagenet Harrison's History of Yorkshire?
Thank you.
