Wickhams in France

Quartermaster Wickham of the Fitzjames Cavalry Regiment, an Irish regiment serving in the French army, was taken prisoner when his ship was captured by the Royal Navy while en route to join the Jacobite forces in Scotland in 1746.

I would love to know who he was and where he came from. Did he have a connection with the Wickham family from Hampshire?

It should not be assumed without evidence that he was Irish, as there were a number of English and Scottish officers also serving in the French army at the time.

Thanks, Bill
