I just picked up on this gen forum message and as to Dr. Richard Fenton Wicker, Jr., I believe the reason he has not posted here in several years, is, it is my understanding he has health issues. As to connection from Lewis Wicker back to his father Matthew Wicker for DAR purposes, Dr. Wicker's book does show Lewis as a son but apparently that's not proof enough. Holley, you have been in touch with me by direct email and Nicole has been in touch through Ancestry.com. She, like me, is a direct descendant of the Lewis and Matthew Wicker, in question, though through different branches of Lewis Wicker's tree. Lewis had left NC for Lincoln Co., TN by at least 1830 and his father Matthew in NC actually outlived him, Matthew dying in Chatham, NC in 1872 per Dr. Wicker's book, then Lewis is definitely deceased by 1870. He's probably dead before the 1862 Battle of Shiloh (thus post-battle references to "Widow Wicker"), as I believe. It's doubtful to me then, that Matthew ever had a deed, will, probate, or anything else, naming Lewis as a son, since Lewis was long gone to Tennessee.
