I wonder if there could be a connection between your family and mine.
My Grandfather was Herman C.F. Fick(Wick?)He changed it to Vick.He was born in 1859 in Mondrovia, Germany. his mother was Louise Wickert, married Johann Fick. they stayed in Germany. but Herman migrated to America inabout 1880. He cmae to Portland, Dodge county, WI and later moved to a farm in Waterloo, Dodge Co., WI. I was told he came her at age 14 with a brother who had to return to Germany because of illness. Herman was 24 when he arrived in America. I don't know if the brother actually went back or if he returned. We know nothing about him... but Herman did make occasional trips to Chicago to visit friends or relatives.
