Obituary.
David Race was born in Hudson, N. Y. in 1800, and died in Omro Wis. March 21st 1883. Meeting with a most genial companion, a help-meet indeed, in Miss Hannah McLain, they were early married and journeyed happily together for nearly 60 years, till death parted them four years ago. They moved to Waupun in 1851. Father Race has been an honest earnest christian, and a member of the M. E. Church for nearly 60 years. His christian experience was sound and positive. His prayer and remarks in public were listened to with deep interest and profit. His final sickness was long and severe; relieved only by constant prayer and the most devoted attention of his family and friends. He seemed startled and somewhat disappointed to learn that his devout christian son John, had just stepped into Heaven while he was left knocking at the gate -- but the beautiful gate reopened and five of the family were re-united. Incidentally the same text was used at his funeral service, that was preached from just four years before at the funeral of his beloved wife. “Blessed are the dead that die in the Lord from henceforth; Yes, saith the spirit, that they may rest from their labors; and their works do follow them.”
